- Description
The main aim of this project is to undertake fundamental research into the interactions of materiality, mentalities and institutional orders and to contribute to greater knowledge of social changes in Luxembourg in a transnational context.
Changes in sepulchral culture tell us a great deal about social transformation processes concerning individualisation, pluralisation and secularisation, as well as de- and re-sacralisation. The study of cultural transfers and interculturality will also benefit from this project, as the interdisciplinary analysis of necrogeography and deathscapes will lead to a better understanding of the transformations of local and national traditions as a result of the interlinked phenomena of (hyper)modernisation, globalisation and migration.
In addition, the project also pertains to sustainable spatial and urban development, as cemetery areas undergo significant changes in allocation and are made available for other uses.
